It’s that time of year again! The Mr. Pageants have begun. This is my second year helping with the Mr. Davis pageant and I’m ecstatic! It is such a great experience to be able to work with these twelve boys and go through all the different eye-opening experiences with them.
The photos you see are from the Mr. Davis Orientation and Children’s Village tour. Along with a few other YouthWork members, I led the tours this year and it was a lot of fun.
We started off learning about how Children’s Village has helped save money for families of children with special needs. Then each of the boys was given their own “child” (a Kids on the Block puppet) with special needs to care for.
Throughout the rest of the night these puppets were their kids and as we led the tour of the village they had to help them walk and remain safe. We went to therapy sessions and learned how to improve speech and dexterity.
We learned about the incredible Parent to Parent program and how Children’s Village helps families balance the challenges they must deal with; like doctor’s appointments, school, work, speech therapy, and bills.
This was a first of many great experiences to come, I’m sure. Be sure to come and support all the different pageants throughout the next couple months!
The Mr. Davis pageant is February 26th, I can’t wait to see you there!
