Make a change….for life!

One in three Washington adults has prediabetes.  Prediabetes means that blood sugar is higher than normal and the risk for getting type 2 diabetes is high.

Did you know the chances of getting type 2 diabetes can be reduced?  This fall, a new diabetes prevention program will be added to Memorial’s existing Diabetes Wellness Program which includes foot care, education, support groups and diabetes management.

With this evidence-based program, participants will learn how to change their lifestyle and improve their health. A site for this much needed program is being located….more news to come!

“This program is not a weight loss program, it is a lifestyle program.  Going on a diet is not the treatment for diabetes or prediabetes, a lifestyle change is the treatment”, said a former program participant.

This program is made possible through a generous grant and will need continued support to be sustained.

  1. I am interested in the “Make a Change for Life” program…can you send me additional information? My Dad is type 2 diabetic…and I usually follow in his
    elderly patterns.

Thanks for any assistance you can give me.
    Kind Regards,

    1. Hi Randy,
I’m excited to hear of your interest in this new and life changing class soon to be offered here at YVMH. Our first class will start in November. We have had some difficulty nailing down a location for the time frame that is needed so we haven’t committed to a firm date yet. However, I do expect that decision to be finalized this week. We will get that information to you ASAP!

I do know that classes will be weekly, 1 hr classes for 16 weeks. Followed by monthly 1 hr class for the remainder of the year. The fee for the class will be $75 for the entire year.

Feel free to contact me at if you have any additional questions.

I look forward to meeting with you soon.

      Jennifer Hilmes RN/CDE
