New equipment for the tiniest of tiny babies!

A need was identified, donations were made and the equipment needed in Memorial’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was purchased and is now serving NICU patients.  Because people generously gave, all the details fell together!    Funds were used to purchase a procedure light that can be used throughout the NICU to help focus on delicate procedures, such as IV’s, on tiny NICU patients.  New specialized scales were purchased that are designed to be nested under the controlled environment of a special ventilator or isolete. Placing the scales in such a location allows for the babies to be weighed without them being exposed to the elements in the room, keeping the very sick and smallest of babies in a stable environment.  Babies are weighed every day to measure fluid and electrolyte balance, an important factor in caring for babies weighing as little as a pound.

Last month we shared the exiting news about the Adventurer LP corporate matching gift for Memorial’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the generous community gifts that helped meet the match.  Because of this generosity over $11,000 was given to purchase this vital equipment for the NICU. Quality care provided because people gave….gratefulness abounds!
