ACT! – Changing children’s lives, one at a time – for their health, for their future. Made possible by community support and grant funding, the 2014 ACT! program begins in January. ACT! is an evidence-based, healthy lifestyle program for overweight youth and their parents. In 2013 ACT! was a pilot program reaching 71 families and over 220 community members adults and youth. The philosophy of ACT! is to provide parents and youth with the ability to make healthy lifestyle choices, develop strong core regulatory skills, quality relationships, and tools to navigate the many barriers to healthy body functioning and self-worth.
This group meets for 12 weeks, once a week for fun physical activities, preparation and eating of a light meal, and a separate time for the kids and parents to meet. Programs will be offered in January and September in both English and Spanish. A healthcare provider referral is required to enroll and the child/teen must have a body mass index greater than 85th percentile. For more information go to yakimamemorial.org\act
