Time and health are two things that are invaluable and you can’t get back. Health isn’t just limited to your physical health; it also includes your financial health.

Life happens fast. It can be overwhelmingly beautiful and at times just overwhelming. In what seems like no time at all, you go from a careless child enjoying summer days, to teenager, to a blossoming young adult. Then a family of your own comes along and life multiplies. Before you know it, the house is quiet and retirement becomes something in the not too distant future.

Finances aren’t something that are fun to think about and it can be hard to prioritize when life is full of so many things that are much more fun, like dinner with friends or playing with the kids. Similar to your physical health, there are many ways to gauge how you are doing.  An easy way to start is to check off these three major things:

  1. Start talking and planning about retirement. It doesn’t matter whether you are 20 or 65; you can start or refine your plan at any age.
  2. Have a plan for your debt. Understand what planned debt you have such as a mortgage and what needs to be paid off like credit card debt.
  3. Most importantly, start asking questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to understanding your financial situation.

Starting with these three simple things to understand your financial health will ensure that you can spend your time enjoying our 300 days of sunshine, that perfect mountain hike or that chilled glass of local wine.
