January 23 kicks off the keystone of Memorial’s YouthWorks program, the 2013 high school pageant series, with the Mr. Toppenish Pageant at 7:00 pm at the Toppenish High School Auditorium. It will be the first of seven. Mr. West Valley will take the stage February 20, with Mr. Davis the following week on February 26. Find a Pageant near you!
Over the years, the pageant series has not only raised nearly $650,000 for young ones in Memorial’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Children’s Village and other children’s healthcare programs, but it has taught countless young people about need, service, and interdependence—the hallmark of any community.
In addition to the more-than-impressive dollar figures, a crowning achievement of the program is its ability to change lives of the high school kids involved. By exposing themselves to the challenges of real need, they all learn a little about themselves, their community and small blessings. For most, the YouthWorks experience opens up one’s perspective. For some, it changes everything.
